BBCOne person was killed in a shooting involving federal immigration agents on Monday in Maine, the state’s House speaker says.
“A person was killed. ICE was involved,” House Speaker Ryan Fecteau wrote on Facebook. He said the state police are at the scene and the FBI is expected to investigate as well.
The BBC has contacted the Department of Homeland Security and ICE for comment.
The fatal encounter is the second such event this month, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shot a man in Texas last week during a vehicle stop.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, was fatally shot by agents at a traffic stop in Houston last week. Officials later said he was not the intended target.
