Senegal gears up for Youth Olympic Games

Senegal is preparing to host the Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic event ever to be held in Africa. The Olympic flame has arrived in Dakar, beginning a journey across the country before the Games open on October 31.

The Olympic flame has arrived in Senegal ahead of the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, making history as Africa prepares to host its first-ever Olympic event.

Welcomed with music, dance and a symbolic procession led by 100 Senegalese women, the flame began a nationwide tour across all 14 regions on September 12.

Leaders have hailed the moment as a source of pride for Senegal and the continent.

Around 2,700 young athletes are expected to compete when the Games open on October 31 in Dakar.
