The EU’s digital Entry and Exit System (EES) is reshaping daily life in the Serbian border village of Nestin. Because many residents must cross EU territory in Croatia to reach jobs, schools, banks and health care, strict enforcement of the 90-day entry rule left some unable to travel. After a week-long road blockade, villagers secured special border passes. However, key workers, including a local doctor and librarian, are still waiting for permits, leaving essential services at risk and highlighting the impact of EU border controls on cross-border communities.
