South Africa and other Southern African countries are bracing themselves for an El Nino event expected to reach very strong levels of intensity.
El Nino in the region started in July and is expected to stretch until March 2027. At its peak, the weather event could bring less-than-normal rainfall, severe drought, reduced harvests, livestock deaths and food shortages.
