Melani McAlister, professor of American Studies and International Affairs at George Washington University, Washington DC, has written extensively about 9/11 and how the wars that followed changed American perceptions of the Middle East, as well as Americans’ understanding of their role in the world.
“The fact is that the wars have not been very successful by any measure. Instead, it has led to more instability, more destabilization, more deaths in the Middle East,” McAlister tells DW.
