Workers waded through a rubbish-filled river in Manila, collecting waste that washed in during days of heavy rain.

The nine-day downpour, exacerbated by tropical storms, was equivalent to more than a month’s worth of rain in some areas. It resulted in school and government office closures across the main island of Luzon and flooding in the capital.
