US President Donald Trump has announced new 50% tariffs on nearly $20 billion worth of Canadian imports, despite the existing US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement. The measures, set to take effect on August 19, target products ranging from dairy and wine to furniture and sports equipment. Washington accuses Canada of unfair trade practices, while Ottawa says its policies are a response to previous US tariffs. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says negotiations with the US will continue and has called for a deal covering all critical sectors.
