The US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the German agrochemical giant Bayer, sending its stock soaring. Claimant groups are outraged, while critics have warned the decision could strip sick patients of legal recourse, fuel global health concerns and spark political backlash. Some settlement negotiations are expected to continue.
The World Health Organization has classified glyphosate — a key ingredient in Bayer’s Roundup weedkiller—as “probably carcinogenic.” It is one of the most widely used pesticides globally and is commonly found in food, water and the environment.
