France is assessing the damage after a weekend of unrest that saw an estimated 3,000 shops damaged or looted, including businesses in Paris. In response, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced localized curfews aimed at protecting residents and businesses. Mayors from cities including Paris, Bordeaux and Lille called for unity and questioned the police response. The riots have also intensified political debate ahead of next year’s presidential election, with far-right leader Marine Le Pen and student demonstrators both calling for change.
