Denmark has recorded its highest-ever temperature of 37 degrees Celsius (99 Fahrenheit), highlighting an early and intense European heat wave. Residents in Copenhagen reported noticeable climate shifts, while authorities have warned of risks to vulnerable groups, especially older people.

France has said it is better prepared than during the deadly 2003 heat wave. In Germany, extreme heat has damaged infrastructure, with roads cracking.

The unusually hot temperatures are fueling fresh concerns about climate change across Europe.
