When the landslide victory of Peter Magyar and his Tisza party in April’s parliamentary election ended Viktor Orban’s 16-year rule as prime mister, orthopedic surgeon Zsolt Hegedus was appointed the country’s new health minister.
His celebratory dance on election night turned him into an unlikely internet celebrity. He has even been named one of the “39-ish Most Stylish People of 2026, So Far” by the New York Times.
Now, however, he faces a massive challenge: reforming Hungary’s struggling healthcare system and restoring his compatriots’ faith in it.
