Canadian Anne Carson wins Nobel Prize for Literature

The Swedish Academy called Carson’s work “bold and inventive.” Carson’s genre-bending writing mixes verse, prose, dialogue and translation. She’s one of several prominent women to win the prize in recent years.

Canadian poet, essayist and translator Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Swedish Academy praised her for creating innovative literary forms through a playful engagement with classical traditions.

Best known for works such as Autobiography of Red, Carson joins a select group of Nobel laureates and becomes the latest woman to receive the award.
