Eight treatment centers now operate in Ituri, the epicenter of the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The treatment center in Rwampara houses 22 patients. Protesters attacked the center when the outbreak began, shaking healthcare workers and response teams. Three weeks later, tensions have eased.
Measures are now in place to protect healthcare workers. At least 20 doctors and nurses have died in this outbreak, and psychologists now support staff and their families.
Still, response teams need more supplies and medication. International partners, including the European Union, have delivered aid through the World Health Organization, UNICEF and other organizations — vital support to contain the outbreak.
