FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing growing opposition over plans to sell part of the World Cup’s commercial rights to outside investors. Infantino says the move would generate more money for FIFA’s 211 member associations, funding grassroots football and national teams. UEFA and Germany’s football federation strongly oppose the proposal, warning it could hand greater influence to investors. While smaller associations may be attracted by promised funding, concerns are mounting over the future direction and commercialization of global football.
