Firefighters have been battling flames in Spain’s southern Almería province, where authorities say at least 11 people have been killed and 19 more are missing.

Hundreds of people are working to contain the fire, which local authorities believe to have been caused by a downed power line.

A sustained heatwave with temperatures of around 40C (104F) has caused wildfires across southern Europe this summer, with firefighters also facing major incidents in France and Portugal throughout the season.
