A person drove a car into a crowd in the northwestern French city of Caen on Wednesday, killing at least one person and injuring about a dozen others, firefighters and police said, according to the AFP news agency and BFM TV.
A police source said the driver rammed the car into the crowd near the city’s train station after a fight in the area, and one suspect was arrested, AFP reported.
BFM TV reported that two people had been killed in the incident.
The driver fled and was later arrested 20 kilometers (12 miles) away, a source told AFP.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. local time (2000 UTC/GMT) near a bus stop close to the Caen train station. According to initial reports, a black vehicle drove into several people who were in the area.
Police cordoned off the area while emergency services attended to the victims.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and trying to determine whether the attack was intentional.
