In Lyon, France, the “House of Diversity” offers LGBTQ+ people aged 55 and over a safe place to grow older without hiding their identity. Residents Alice, a transgender woman, and Francois, a gay man, describe experiences of discrimination, violence and isolation that shaped their lives.

The project was created in response to reports of bullying in retirement homes, and aims to provide community, support and dignity. Organizers hope to expand the model across France as more queer seniors approach retirement age.
