Third drone found after Leipzig airport attack — reports

German investigators have discovered a third drone and suspected explosives linked to an incident at Leipzig/Halle airport earlier this month, according to German media.

The drone was found on August 14, 10 days after the incident, west of the airport. Investigators reportedly discovered around 50 grams (1.8 ounces) of a substance suspected to be the military explosive hexogen.

The initial reports came from public broadcasters NDR and WDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

On August 4, an explosives-laden drone was discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft used to transport military supplies.

Investigators also suspect a second drone may have collided with a DHL cargo aircraft shortly after the airport was temporarily closed.

Security sources cited by the German media reports suspect Russian intelligence involvement.

Russia has denied accusations that it was behind the attempted attack.

Leipzig/Halle is one of Germany’s most important cargo airports and also serves as a military logistics hub.
