Germany pledges €50m to repair Chernobyl nuclear shelter

Germany says it is planning to allocate 50 million euros to help repair the damaged protective shelter of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site. The steel structure over the destroyed reactor was damaged in a drone attack.

Germany says it is planning to allocate 50 million euros to help repair the damaged protective shelter of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site. Environment Minister Carsten Schneider made the announcement during a visit to Kyiv on Tuesday. The steel containment structure over the destroyed reactor was damaged in a drone attack during Russia‘s full scale invasion of Ukraine. Experts say its shielding function can no longer be guaranteed.
