Belarus has labeled the European Humanities University (EHU), a Vilnius-based institution serving many Belarusian students, an extremist organization. Students say the move has sparked fear, with some reporting searches of their families’ homes.
Human rights groups say dozens of current and former students have been affected, while many have dropped out. Activists describe the campaign as part of a broader effort by President Alexander Lukashenko‘s government to silence perceived critics, even beyond Belarus’ borders.
