US military member killed in Iraq during ‘controlled demolition’ of Iranian drone

A US service member was killed in Iraq during a controlled demolition of an Iranian drone, the US military said late Sunday night.

The service member is the third American to be killed in recent days, after two US troops were killed in Jordan on Friday in a strike claimed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

A third service member was missing after that strike. The US military said Sunday that “unidentified remains” had been found and were being examined.

At least 17 US military personnel have been killed since the war began in late February.

US strikes Iran for 9th consecutive night

The US military launched a new wave of strikes targeting Iran early on Monday, the ninth consecutive night of attacks.

“The strikes will continue degrading Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on X.

Iranian state media reported that the northwestern city of Tabriz was struck. Previous waves of US attacks in the latest escalation had mainly targeted sites along the Persian Gulf coast in southern Iran.

The US has resumed daily attacks on Iran since a ceasefire collapsed on July 8.
