Water became a key part of Jordan‘s 1994 peace agreement with Israel, under which Israel agreed to supply 50 million cubic meters annually. In 2021, Israel agreed to provide an additional 50 million cubic meters a year from the Sea of Galilee, but that deal lapsed at the end of 2025.
Jordan’s water supplies have also been under growing pressure from population growth, rising demand and climate change.
