Andy Burnham has officially been confirmed as the new leader of the UK Labour Party after being the only eligible candidate nominated for the role.

The announcement was greeted with cheers from supporters hoping he can revive the Labour government following months of political turmoil and the resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Burnham pledged to unite the party, restore hope and build on the foundation laid by his predecessor.
