Morgan Stanley is the lead banker engaging in advanced talks to lend $15 billion to Nexus Data Centers to build out a large artificial intelligence infrastructure project for Anthropic, CNBC confirmed on Thursday.

Nexus Data Centers will use the capital to develop a data center campus in Hubbard, Texas, according to a source familiar with the discussions who asked not to be named because the details are confidential. As part of the deal, Google agreed to backstop Anthropic with its investment-grade credit rating, the person said.

The Wall Street Journal was first to report the deal.

Anthropic has been engaging with a variety of infrastructure partners this year, inking a flurry of deals in an effort to increase its computing capacity. The company struck an agreement with Advanced Micro Devices earlier this month, Elon Musk’s SpaceX in May and Google and Broadcom, in April.

Google in April also agreed to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, building on a longstanding partnership between the two companies. in 2023, Google invested $300 million in the AI lab for a stake of about 10%, followed by another $2 billion months later.

Anthropic and Nexus Data Centers declined to comment. Google did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. Morgan Stanley declined to comment.
