Nigeria is expanding its use of drone technology as it seeks to strengthen domestic defense capabilities and combat insurgent groups.

Local company UNICCON is developing surveillance, reconnaissance and attack drones, including loitering munitions designed for local conditions.

The military has said drones play a central role in operations against insurgents, while engineers are also building systems to detect and neutralize hostile drones. The push reflects a broader global shift toward locally developed military technology and the growing influence of drone warfare.
