A thick orange smog has descended on the Indonesian city of Palangka Raya.

Witnesses captured videos of the haze washing over the Kalimantan region not far from where wildfires continue to burn.

The ISPU air pollution index exceeded 1,200, according to data from the national environment ministry, four times higher than the “hazardous” level of 300 on Wednesday.

Toxic smog is choking millions across Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, with authorities partly blaming the agricultural clearing method known as “slash and burn” for compounding the intense haze.
