The New York Stock Exchange becomes the second major exchange to announce extended-hours options trading for heavily-traded ETFs and single stocks, following CBOE’s announcement that it will introduce extended trading for 25 single stocks and five ETFs.

Extended options trading hours for the NYSE, which is owned and operated by the Intercontinental Exchange, begin Monday, and will operate from 7:30 AM to 9:25 AM ET, while the new late trading session will operate from 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM ET.

Twenty-nine major stocks and funds are available for extended trading including Nvidia, Bank of America, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust and the iShares Russell 2000 ETF.

Beginning Dec. 6, 2026, NYSE will extend trading to 23 hours, five days a week in those same names.

“Markets have changed tremendously over the years, and that kind of progress only happens when you keep investing in your technology,” said Kevin Tyrrell, chief product officer, NYSE, in a statement. “Extended trading hours for options reflects market demand for investment opportunities and reliable risk management during a longer period of time.”

The fresh offering from NYSE reflects growing demand for derivatives products among traders, as well as strong appetite for 24/7 trading instruments. Crypto was the first asset class to offer continuous trading. More recently, prediction markets and perpetual futures offer a 24/7 schedule and a unique exposure across demand-heavy areas of the market.

Data from CBOE confirms the growing appetite for trading beyond the regular session. Extended hours trading just hit its highest levels on record – more than 199,000 contracts per day on average – following steady growth and an explosion of activity this year.

Volumes were very muted Monday for the first extended session for stocks. The standout volume is in options on Tesla ahead of earnings this Wednesday. A little over 3,000 contracts traded, almost all call contracts — likely traders rolling positions — worth a total value less than $100,000, according to SpotGamma data.
