Germany needs to listen more closely to the Global South and move beyond a ‘Eurocentric’ approach, Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan from the Social Democrats (SPD) told DW at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. Ahead of launching a new South-North Commission, she said its recommendations would help shape government policy.
Radovan also warned that many UN Sustainable Development Goals are unlikely to be met by 2030, citing global crises, economic pressure and reduced aid budgets. She added that Germany’s influence at the United Nations has weakened.
