At least 12 people have been killed and more than 20 remain missing as the Los Gallardos wildfire tears through Spain’s southern Almeria region. The fast-moving blaze, fueled by extreme heat and dry forests, has destroyed homes and businesses and trapped residents and tourists trying to escape.

More than 150 firefighters, backed by the Spanish military, are battling difficult terrain and scattered settlements as authorities struggle to contain one of the deadliest wildfires in Spanish history. With temperatures expected to exceed 40°C, officials warn conditions could worsen.
