Voters in Ethiopia queued from early Monday morning in the capital Addis Ababa to elect more than 500 members of parliament, who will later choose the prime minister.
While many citizens saw the election as a chance to shape the country’s future, only a fraction of the population was registered to vote. Voting did not take place in conflict-affected regions such as Tigray, and opposition parties alleged their had been restrictions on campaigning.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is expected to remain in power.
