The diminutive Manneken Pis statue is a Brussels landmark. Most of the time, he’s naked. But every year, he dons more than 200 different outfits. Since 2014, Nicolas Edelman has been his official dresser. What’s behind this unusual job? The idea of dressing Manneken Pis in costumes dates back to the 17th century, though back then, it only happened on special occasions. After World War I, it gradually became an established tradition. Each costume is a work of art. There’s even a museum dedicated to the statue. Manneken Pis has more outfits than most celebrities. Some are gifts from athletes, designers, fashion houses and even royal families. About 20 new outfits are added each year. They’re donated for special occasions and designed to fit the little figure perfectly.
