Threat of all-out trade war between US and Canada looms

Canada is set to announce its response to Washington’s new trade tariffs, with retaliatory tariffs of its own. Both sides are blaming the other for the end of trade negotiations. And neither appear to be backing down.

Canada and the United States are heading toward a deeper trade dispute after failing to reach an agreement to avoid new US tariffs on selected Canadian goods. Canada is expected to announce retaliatory measures on Monday. Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa remains open to talks, while US Vice President JD Vance blamed Canada for the breakdown. The escalating exchange of accusations has raised concerns that a full-scale trade war could harm businesses on both sides of the border.
