President Donald Trump will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday ahead of the upcoming U.N. General Assembly, the mayor’s office confirmed to CNBC on Sunday.

The mayor’s press office said the meeting will take place at Gracie Mansion and “will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers.”

Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, rose to national prominence after winning New York City’s 2025 mayoral election. He has emerged as a top leader amid the Democratic Party’s leftward shift, and Monday’s meeting will be the latest tete-a-tete between the two political adversaries.

Trump’s Republican Party has placed Mamdani at the center of its messaging blitz ahead of November’s midterm elections, where the GOP is trying to paint Democrats as “communists.” Democrats are surging in public polling heading into the midterms, where Republicans risk losing control of both the House and the Senate.

Trump himself has maintained an unusually cordial relationship with Mamdani — whom he actively worked against during the mayoral race — despite his own party’s attempts to attack the mayor. A native New Yorker, the president has hosted Mamdani at the White House twice for surprisingly friendly meetings.
