US President Donald Trump has escalated his confrontation with the media by barring several news organizations, including CNN and Politico, from the White House.
The outlets are challenging the move in court, arguing it violates press freedom protections.
In response, major US broadcasters have suspended their shared coverage of presidential events.
The dispute intensified with the launch of “Trump TV,” a new White House-run streaming channel that provides round-the-clock coverage selected by the administration.
DW examines what’s at stake with former CNN Washington Bureau Chief and former White House correspondent Frank Sesno.
“This is the person who has sued the BBC for $10 billion, the Wall Street Journal, he tried for $10 billion, the New York Times and others because he does not like the coverage that doesn’t reflect well on him, pure and simple,” Sesno tells DW.
