Gloria Steinem, one of the main voices of the women’s liberation movement in the United States, has died aged 92, her foundation says.
Steinem spoke to BBC’s Faranak Amidi in December 2023 for the 100 Women series about her legacy and what change she hoped to see in the world in her lifetime.
“I would just say that I was trying to make the world a little more fair and a little more representative than it was when I got here,” Steinem said.
In a post on Instagram, Steinem’s foundation said she “passed away peacefully” at her home in New York City on Wednesday “surrounded by many who loved her”.
