Marilyn Monroe’s jewellery, dresses and letters auctioned for her 100th birthday
Hundreds of Marilyn Monroe’s personal possessions have been put up for auction in the week that would have marked the Hollywood icon’s 100th birthday.
Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills said it had made more than $2.5m (£1.8m) on 1 June from an auction that included Monroe’s jewellery, dresses, and personal letters written in a time of crisis from the troubled set of her 1959 film Some Like It Hot.
Many of those items came from the estate of Norman and Hedda Rosten, close friends of the actress towards the end of her life.
A second auction at Julien’s in California is taking place on 4 June, featuring the star’s earliest headshots and make-up.
