Queensland woman Nell was taking her dog for a walk in Brisbane, Australia, when she saw a distressed koala trying to protect its joey – which was being strangled by a snake.
Nell rushed to disentangle the young koala from the python, and was able to successfully reunite mother and baby. Though Nell was not injured by the snake, she did sustain several scratches and bites from the distressed joey.
Queensland’s government has published strict guidelines on how to approach native wildlife, and reminds people to never attempt to handle wildlife without expert advice first.
Nell is passionate about wildlife conservation and told local media she hoped the video of her rescue inspired people to take up volunteering and put more pressure on government bodies to make the lives of koalas safer.
