According to the Beaumont Police and Fire Department, a sinkhole opened up early on the morning of 2 August swallowing a pickup truck traveling through the intersection.

The sinkhole, estimated at 20 feet wide and 20 feet deep, was filled with several feet of water gushing from a broken water main, the cause of the sinkhole, according to city officials.

The driver was able to crawl out of the accident without injury, police said.
