Off the coast of Loughshinny, Ireland, artist Maria McSweeney uses underwater artworks to reveal hidden seagrass and raise awareness for marine conservation. Her work was made possible by a government basic income for artists, providing €325 ($375) per week for three years. Studies show that the subsidy contributes to productivity and well-being. As living costs rise, the program is seen as an economic and cultural success and is now being made permanent.
