Despite Elon Musk‘s polarizing reputation and controversial involvement in US politics, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded him the Order of Freedom, one of Ukraine’s highest honors. The reason is Starlink, Musk’s satellite internetnetwork, which has become vital to Ukraine’s defense against Russia. Starlink enables battlefield communication, drone operations, and military coordination while remaining unavailable to Russian forces in Ukraine. Kyiv hopes Musk will further expand Starlink’s coverage to enhance Ukraine’s long-range military capabilities into Russia.
