LivestreamMenuThe stock market has been volatile of late as a cocktail of elevated oil prices and persistent inflation rattles investors. That that hasn’t been the case with Berkshire Hathaway . The conglomerate’s Class A shares are on track for their 10 th consecutive day of gains. That would mark their first 10-day rally since January 2018. He noted that the company is flush with cash, “a good symbol of continued patience under the new CEO,” Shields told CNBC. But it also means that if short-term interest rates go up, “they’ll be making more money.” The 2-year Treasury yield pulled back from its peak of 4.9% in late September and currently sits around 4.80%. Berkshire, as a major player in the insurance space, could also benefit from “no hurricane landfalls in the third quarter,” Shields said, suggesting that the reassessment and potential limiting of overall catastrophe reinsurance results “worked out in their favor.” Fluctuations in oil prices could be another factor in Berkshire’s favor since the firm has a diverse set of investments in the energy space under its global energy holding company, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, Shields said.
