LivestreamMenuThe recent volatility in the equity markets has created some potentially attractive opportunities for investors willing to look past near-term choppiness. CNBC Pro screened the S & P 500 for stocks with some of the highest prospective risk-adjusted returns, based on Wall Street analysts’ price targets and options-implied expectations for volatility over the next 12 months. The list includes tech darlings like Nvidia and Broadcom as well as Boeing and T-Mobile , along with lesser-known names that could see substantial upside if analysts’ forecasts prove accurate. There’s a distinct contrarian bent to the list, with many of the stocks lower over the past month even as analysts have maintained bullish price targets. The screen was inspired partly by a strategy from Goldman Sachs. It compares the potential excess return on a stock’s consensus price target (over a risk-free rate), with its 12-month implied volatility. A higher ratio suggests more potential upside relative to risk, as measure by expected volatility. Wynn Resorts tops the screen, with analysts expecting the casino operator’s shares to climb about 70% to reach their consensus 12-month price target. Wynn has fallen nearly 14% over the past month, but analysts are broadly positive: all 25 who cover the stock have positive ratings, according to FactSet. T-Mobile too ranks near the top. Shares in the wireless carrier have dropped nearly 16% over the past month as potential competition from StarLink, a SpaceX division, spooked investors . But Wall Street’s price target has fallen only about 1%. Analysts see roughly 54% upside from current levels and the stock’s comparatively modest implied volatility helps lift its risk-adjusted score. Micron Technology is another standout, with analysts forecasting nearly 70% upside to their consensus price target. The memory-chip maker’s shares have been volatile recently as investors weigh AI growth against fears of a tech-driven bubble. Nvidia is an exception in the screen, having gained about 5% over the past month, while its consensus price target has remained essentially unchanged. Analysts still see more than 40% implied upside and more than 90% have a positive rating on the Jensen Huang-led chipmaker. Other technology-related names on the screen include Broadcom, Oracle , Western Digital and AppLovin . Western Digital has one of the largest potential returns on the screen, with analysts forecasting roughly 80% upside, though its elevated implied volatility makes it one of the riskier names, by that measure.
