Around 400 schools across France  have seen students take to the streets in protest over what they say are worsening learning conditions. Demonstrators have voiced frustration over overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and school timetables, while wider discontent is also fueled by concerns over the government’s upcoming budget. The protests come as France grapples with a record budget deficit and austerity pressures that have already led to pay freezes for many public sector workers.
