US launches strikes on Iran, Tehran fires back
The United States has launched fresh strikes on targets in Iran as hostilities once again flare up.
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes, saying they were in response to “recent attempted attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region.”
“The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait,” US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” Trump warned.
Earlier, Trump told US broadcaster Fox News that US forces had struck Iranian radars.
“They tried to rebuild their radar because they can’t see anything,” Trump told Fox. “We waited until it was almost built and then we hit it.”
An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman, quoted by the Fars state news agency, said the US would “regret” its latest attacks, which state television said included a strike on Jiroft airport in southeastern Iran, located around 300 kilometers (186 miles) inland from the Strait of Hormuz.
