Ukraine celebrates 35 years of independence

Ukraine is marking 35 years of independence from the Soviet Union with a show of defiance and international support. Foreign leaders gathered in Kyiv pledging more support for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has delivered a defiant message to Moscow. saying his country “will not back down until there is a just and lasting peace.” Zelenskyy made the comment in an address to the nation as Ukraine celebrates its independence day.  Ukraine has been marking 35 years since it broke free of Soviet rule, with a number of European leaders pledging more support for Kyiv’s defense against the full-scale invasion Russia launched four-and-a-half years ago.
