Russia has placed the Russian assets of major European companies including Nestle, Metro and Auchan under temporary management, stripping them of operational control while formally leaving ownership unchanged. Christopher Walker, vice president of the Center for European Policy Analysis, says the move fits a broader Kremlin strategy to pressure Europe and use foreign businesses as leverage amid growing economic strain. He warns that Western firms still operating in Russia face significant risks and an increasingly unpredictable business environment.
