The censorship of “Satluj,” a film about Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has reignited debate over censorship and artistic freedom in India. Shared by star Diljit Dosanjh, clips from the film have attracted millions of views online. The movie portrays Khalra’s efforts to document alleged enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings during the Punjab insurgency of the 1980s and 1990s. After being taken down from streaming platform Zee5, the film has circulated online and through community screenings across Punjab.
