Leif-Erik Holm helped build the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) and is now campaigning — alongside lead candidate Enrico Schult — to become the party’s first state premier in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
A longtime critic of immigration, Holm is calling for tougher border controls, an end to sanctions on Russia and a return to nuclear power.
Though seen as a comparatively moderate AfD figure, he has faced criticism for not distancing himself from controversial party members, and for backing a colleague with ties to Germany’s neo-Nazi scene.
